One of my talented team members overlooked an important release on the production and this happened third time in a row.
As you know in start up you are always short of resources and money and when things goes south then it really impacts every bit of the business.
And at this stage to bring back the seriousness in the team, I displayed anger in the morning team meeting.
Being known for my calm behaviour, the gravity of the situation compelled me to exhibit a facet of anger. It was a calculated display, intended to emphasize the seriousness of the oversight and to incite my team into rectifying the situation promptly.
The reaction was immediate and effective.
The team rallied, rectified the error, and steered the project back on track.
The instance left a lasting impression, instilling a level of meticulousness and accountability that hadn’t existed before.
This experience illuminated that while a friendly environment is conducive for routine operations, occasional displays of anger, when justified, can serve as a stark reminder of the standards that need to be upheld.
It can act as a catalyst, urging the team to rise above complacency, foster accountability, and strive for excellence.
The managerial role is vast and the ability to recognize when to employ which emotion is what sets apart a great leader.
At times, deviating off the path of positivity can unveil a route that leads to enhanced performance and unyielding success.
