Mentally tough people listen with the intent to understand; not with the intent to reply.

We’ve all heard the old saying – “There’s a reason we were given two ears and one mouth.” Likeable people are experts at one of the most underrated skills available to humans – listening.

As humans, we all have an innate need to be heard and understood. Listening is an interactive process and showing someone that you’re truly comprehending their words is the quickest way to show them you care.

The issue with most of us is we only listen just enough so we can begin developing our reply, and it’s normally done before the other person is even finished talking.
