The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has recently announced the new Approval Process Handbook for the academic year 2023-24. This new handbook will be effective from the current academic year and will provide a comprehensive guide for institutions seeking approval from the AICTE.
The Approval Process Handbook serves as a guide for institutions seeking approval for the establishment of new technical institutions or the introduction of new courses in existing institutions. It also provides guidelines for the renewal of approval for existing institutions.
The AICTE has announced that the submission of online applications for the academic year 2023-24 will begin from 23-03-2023 and will continue till 06-04-2023 (Midnight). Institutions are advised to submit their applications within this period to avoid any delay in the approval process. However, in case of any delay, institutions can submit their applications with a penalty up to 13-04-2023 (Midnight).
Institutions are advised to carefully read and understand the guidelines provided in the Approval Process Handbook before submitting their applications. The handbook provides detailed information on the eligibility criteria, the application process, and the required documents. It is important for institutions to ensure that they meet all the eligibility criteria and submit all the required documents in the prescribed format to avoid any delay in the approval process.
Some of the Important Highlights of the Approval Handbook are as follows:
AICTE has also made some important announcements regarding the maximum number of seats in engineering, management, and computer application courses.
The AICTE has increased the maximum number of seats in engineering and management programmes from 300 to 360. This move is aimed at providing more opportunities to students and improving the quality of education in technical institutions.
Similarly, the maximum approved intake for computer application courses has also been increased from 180 to 300. This decision will not only increase the number of seats but also improve the quality of education in this field.
In another important decision, the AICTE has decided to do away with the PM CARE supernumerary seats in polytechnic institutes. The PM CARES scheme was launched to provide additional support to students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with the situation improving and the number of cases decreasing, the AICTE has decided to discontinue the scheme.
AICTE has also announced that the merger of different postgraduate diploma and MBA programmes will be allowed, subject to the maintenance of the student-teacher ratio.
The AICTE has made this decision in response to the demand from institutions to merge certain postgraduate diploma and MBA programmes, which are similar in nature and content. The merger of these programmes will help institutions in rationalizing their course offerings, reducing redundancy and improving the quality of education.
However, it is important to note that the merger will be allowed only if the student-teacher ratio is maintained. This means that institutions will have to ensure that the quality of education is not compromised by the merger and that students continue to receive the same level of attention and guidance from their teachers.
